Dubai has updated some of its COVID-19 precautionary measures, easing restrictions on concerts, weddings and other social events, as well as allowing hotels to operate at 100 percent capacity, according to a latest advisory issued by the Dubai Media Office on Monday.

The updated measures for events and activities, approved by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, are effective from today, May 17. They were released after the number of new coronavirus infections in the country started falling since their peak in January 2021.

Among the updated measures, wedding events are allowed at hotels and other venues, with the maximum attendance capped at 100. However, attendees and staff are required to get vaccinated.

Weddings held at home are also possible, provided that participants will not exceed 30 people and that precautionary measures must also be strictly observed.

Entertainment venues, hotels

As for entertainment venues, the capacity has been increased to 70 percent, while occupancy limits for hotels have been raised to 100 percent.

Concerts, social and institutional events will also be able to obtain permits on condition that attendees have been vaccinated.

Community sports events can be held as well, provided that spectators, attendees, participants and staff have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

For those planning indoor events, attendees are limited up to 1,500 people, while outdoor events can have as much as 2,500.

As for restaurants, ten people can share one table, while coffee shops can allow up to six customers per table.

Everyone will still be mandated to observe physical distancing of two metres and wear face masks.

Last January, Dubai tightened restrictions pertaining to events, parties and restaurants following a surge in coronavirus cases. The daily infection rate in the country reached more than 3,600 early this year. As of May 16, new cases were just a little over 1,200.
