The Sharjah Public Works Department has completed more than 20 entertainment projects, including 18 parks, three green squares and 5km rubber walkways, in various parts of the emirate, a top official has said.

Ali Bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, chairman of the department, said that the projects completed at a cost of Dh160 million will be open to public in the first quarter of this year itself. The total area of development is around 400,000 square metres.

He added that the projects are aimed at improving the quality of life for all residents of Sharjah. The projects were implemented as part of the emirate's development plan and to provide modern infrastructure services to the society.

Alia Al Rand, director of buildings and projects, said the developed projects include Al Nouf Park 2 which has a total area of more than 77,000 square metres, which includes the establishment of solid decorative fences, internal corridors, toilets, a football field, guard office, store and children's play area.

Al Nouf 3 park has been completed on an area of 42,000 square metres at a cost of Dh4.2 million while Al Nouf Park 4, which extends over an area of 48,000 square metres has been completed with Dh4 million.

"Many neighbourhood parks have been completed in the central region. We also installed rubber walkways to serve the visitors of these parks. There are four more parks completed in the central region with rubber walkways of around 3,500 metres.

The department has also completed Shagrafia park in Al Rahmaniya area which also witnessed execution of public facilities such as cultural, sports and social clubs inside a complex of buildings, pathways, corridors and green spaces along the 120,000 square metre space.

The department has also completed the second phase of the Kesheesha Public Park, which extends over an area of 148,000 square metres.

The department also completed construction works in Al Qaraien Park 3 at a cost of Dh3.5 million, with basketball and volleyball courts, service buildings and decorative walls.
