The UAE Consulate in Hong Kong has issued an advisory to its citizens residing or visiting the country to be cautious due following protests which erupted on Monday.

The embassy in its official Twitter account said, "#UAEconsulateHK draws the attention of UAE citizens towards the announcement of HK Airport Authority regarding the cancellation of all flights out of the country on Monday, due to thousands of protesters at the airport."

"The Consulate urges citizens to contact 0085228661823 in case of emergency or 8004444 to reach the contact office of MOFA, as well as to register themselves on the Tawajudi app,"

All passenger flights in and out of Hong Kong were cancelled on Monday after thousands of pro-democracy protesters flooded the city's airport to denounce police violence.

The abrupt shutdown at one of the world's busiest hubs came as the Chinese government signalled its rising anger at the protesters, denouncing some of the violent demonstrations as "terrorism".

The airport was reopened on Tuesday.
