Muscat: The Capital Market Authority (CMA) has announced a tender to establish an electronic platform for the exchange of information in preparation for the implementation of the “Dhamani” health insurance scheme.

The “Dhamani” platform is one of the basic steps in the administration of the scheme and aims to conduct health insurance transactions online between insurance companies, private health service providers, third party administrators and the regulators.

It would enable the exchange of information about the insured person and would include requests for approval, funds transfer, the verification and audit of insurance coverage, and the storage and retrieval of data.

Coding system

Using a standard coding system for all users would ensure the regulators could monitor all of the parties involved, enhancing the quality of insurance and health services in the Sultanate.

The platform would also add to the scrutiny of the costs of services in private health institutions and create databases for patients to check the details of their case and the required treatment.

Curb irregularities

This would help to curb any irregularities in the implementation of health insurance, whether on the part of insurers or private health service providers as well as easing and speeding up the exchange of information and making claims more straightforward.

It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers has assigned CMA in its session No. 26/2017 dated 19 September 2017 to coordinate with the concerned authorities to prepare the regulations required for implementation of the health insurance for the employees of the private sector, expatriates residing in Oman and the visitors.
