Officials have raided and shut down a café after being alerted that dine-in customers were being served on the roof of the building and not adhering to guidelines set up to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Inspectors at the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry received a report from officers at Naim Police Station regarding the alleged rule-breaking and carried out an immediate investigation.
They found food and drinks being served on the roof. In total 35 expatriate customers were tucking into the fare. Staff members were also detained.
The café was not abiding by precautionary measures, an official spokesman said, such as ‘social distancing, distances between tables and people, nor to the health requirements necessary for serving food and drinks’.
The Inspection Department closed the café and police officers escorted all those present to the police station.
The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to health requirements introduced during the pandemic and precautionary measures announced. Legal action will be taken against all who violate the instructions.
