Amendments that would have allowed out-of-court settlements in criminal cases have been postponed.

This came as a representative from the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry said that the amendment to the 2002 Criminal Proceedings Law was considered alongside several settlements, but it was seen as problematic.

He said settling criminal causes just drops the rights of individuals but not of the public; crimes that involve killing and theft through assault affects the community and must be punished.

Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh said the amendments needed to be withdrawn for extensive review.

Meanwhile, it was announced that Pakistani Senate chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani will be visiting Bahrain from Tuesday to Friday.
