Washington: The Sultanate has been ranked fourth at the Arab countries' level and 64th at the world level in the 2020 Human Capital Index (HCI) released by the World Bank on its website.

The index showed that the majority of countries achieved rapid progress in human capital for children prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the impacts of the pandemic, over one billion children have not attended schools and they may lose half a year of study, leading to huge financial losses, according to the HCI.

"The pandemic threatens the progress achieved over a decade in human capital, including the risks to health, life expectancy and admission to schools," said David Malbas, President of the World Bank.
