RABAT - Morocco's economic growth decelerated to 2.3 percent in the first quarter this year from 2.9 percent the previous quarter, the planning commission said on Wednesday, citing a drop in agricultural activity.

Agricultural output, which accounts for about 14 percent of gross domestic product, shrunk 4.8 percent due to insufficient rainfall.

Morocco, a major importer of wheat, expects cereals output to drop to 6 million tonnes in 2019 from 10.3 million tonnes last year, according to Central Bank estimates.

Non-agricultural output grew 3.3 percent in the first quarter, driven mainly by services and mining.

Fixed capital formation rose 3 percent in the first quarter, while money supply growth stood at 4 percent, slightly unchanged from 4.1 percent in the previous period.

Second-quarter growth is forecast at 2.4 percent, while agricultural output is expected to remain flat.
