AMMAN — Jordan represents a “good” opportunity for the international community to realise food security through commitment to food systems, Agriculture Minister Khalid Hneifat said on Thursday.

During a meeting with Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley, Hneifat praised the role of the WFP and its cooperation with the ministry in developing the national strategy for food security and its action plan in Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister also urged to put the Kingdom among the top priorities of additional support in light of economic impacts resulting from the pandemic.

In this regard, he voiced Jordan’s discomfort with reducing aid to Syrian refugees, which coincided with the loss of jobs for several families as a result of the pandemic. Beasley praised Royal directives on food systems and security, stressing that the Royal plans serve the entire region.
