Cairo –  The Egyptian Ministry of Finance (MoF) is working on upgrading the tax allocation system by streamlining the procedures, the finance minister said.

This move aims at reinforcing the efficiency of tax administration and enhancing the skills of tax officials through the implementation of development programmes, Mohamed Maait added in a statement on Monday.

The tax administration reform requires online mandatory submission of value-added tax (VAT) and income tax by taxpayers as of 1 January, Maait indicated.

The ministry has launched the first phase of the one-stop shop system to end customs clearance procedures, in addition to the opening of a number of logistics centres, including the centre at Cairo International Airport, he said.

He also revealed that other centres will be opened at Port Said Port as part of a plan to spread logistics centres across the Egyptian ports within two years.
