Muscat: The population growth in Muscat has seen numbers double 37 times within the past 50 years, Oman's Minister of Housing and Urban Planning said on Monday.

His Excellency Dr. Khalfan bin Saeed Al Shuaili, revealed these figures at the Ministry's first media meeting to talk of a transformation program for 2020/2021. He also confirmed that 91 per cent of Omani families owned housing, and this number was not an easy goal to achieve. "It is the highest in the world and the Sultanate is one among the top 5 countries in the world in this regard."

“60 per cent of housing requests are for women, and the total requests amount to 447,612 registered housing applications.”
