UAE - The government of Sharjah will this year give 1,000 new jobs to Emiratis seeking employment, said His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

In audio interview clips posted by Sharjah News on Instagram, Sheikh Sultan said the government has received 12,000 job applications from Emirati men and women this year, including hundreds who have completed the national service programme.

"We have received job applications from 400 young men and women who have completed the military service. We hope to take half or all of them after the summer holiday," said Sheikh Sultan.

He said some job applicants had specialisations in fields that had fewer vacancies, and these applicants would be helped by the government to get qualifications that suited the job market.

"We will offer them diploma courses so that they get relevant qualifications suitable for the job market. Also we shall be giving them salaries during their course of study."

Sheikh Sultan said the government had a programme where Emiratis could obtain a diploma in education so they can become teachers of Arabic language, the Holy Quran, Islamic religious studies and others.

He said he was closely following up the needs of members of the community to ensure that they are all addressed.
