• Five new courses for programming in Arabic
  • A new system for certification in collaboration with "Udacity"

Dubai: One Million Arab Coders launched a new set of coding and programming training courses, which aims to diversify and enhance the knowledge and skills of Arab coders, as well provide them with new employment opportunities for jobs of the future. The newly introduced courses further aims to train more specialized and professional programmers, graduate a generation of digital experts, and provide Arab coders with the tools necessary to lead the digital future.

The One Million Arab Coder initiative, launched under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and lead by Dubai Future Foundation, seeks to expand its participation to a wider segment of Arabic speakers to develop their skills and equip them with the tools necessary to cope with the rapid changes in the world of technology, hence developing individuals on both personal and professional level.

5 specialized courses

The new courses, launched jointly by Dubai Future Foundation and Microsoft, includes “Introduction to AI” which focuses on development of artificial intelligence technology.

The second course focuses on developing the skills of the participants in programming using the language "Java", and the third course, “Getting started with Azure app services” covers the development of smart applications using Microsoft technologies.

The fourth course introduces the concept of “Design Thinking”, a set of strategic and practical processes used to study challenges, acquire knowledge and offer appropriate design and planning solutions.

The fifth course “Building your Azure skills toolkit” focuses on developing participants tools using Azure Cloud Computing service to help them develop, deploy and maintain cloud computing solutions.

Training experiences

In order to allow more participants to learn programming from different ages, education levels and physical locations, the initiative brings together more than 3,600 certified trainers from around the world in various disciplines to train and answer various questions posed by programmers in the courses.

Flexibility in learning

The new initiative changes will also include greater flexibility and ease of access in the registration and start-up phases for the participants. Students can register and begin the course directly, and can complete the course within three months, which can be extended for another three months.

A new evaluation system has been adopted for program participants so that they can begin a two to three-week introductory program which qualifies them to obtain a certificate of participation in the initiative. This will allow them to start one of the nine courses available and receive the selected program completion certificate, and then participants are given certificates once completing the courses offered by Microsoft or Udacity

Participants who have completed their courses are eligible to qualify for the “Nano Degree" certificate, which is organized every three months.

Initiative to empower Arabs

In October 2017, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the One Million Arab Coders initiative as the largest programming initiative that aims to train a million young Arab on the language of the future – coding.

This initiative aims to empower Arab youth in the region by providing them with jobs in the future technology sector and provide specialized scientific training to support them with shaping the future, contributing to the growth of the Arab region as well as creating a positive shift and hope in the Arab world.
