A major UAE-based business group founded by Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan has partnered with an Israeli technology firm to launch a remote healthcare solution in the booming internet of things (IoT) market.

The partnership between Sure Universal and UAE-based Hamad Bin Khalifa Department of Projects (HBK DOP) is the first product launch tie-up between companies from the two countries following the signing of the Middle East peace deals. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan is a member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family and the chairman of HBK DOP.

Called HBKiCare, the new product will offer remote patient monitoring and home healthcare to customers both in the UAE and the regional markets.

“This announcement completes a significant milestone for the promotion of healthcare technology and innovation between the two countries. The need has never been greater than today, with COVID-19 driving a huge demand globally for remote healthcare,” the firm said in a press statement.

According to Frost Sullivan, the demand for telehealth technology is expected to grow dramatically due to the coronavirus outbreak. The telehealth market in the United States (US) alone is forecast to post a “tsunami of growth” at 64.3 percent this year.

“The need [for a telehealth product] has never been greater than today, with COVID-19 is driving a huge demand globally for remote healthcare,” said HBKicare in a statement.

Its universal remote healthcare platform and homecare kit will provide continuous patient monitoring. Patients who have previously been infected with COVID-19 will be among those who will benefit from several services like remote measurements of ECG, temperature, pulse, blood oxygen and pressure.

There will also be an “elderly care at home solution” that includes fall detection, activities of daily living and personal location monitoring, which is supported by artificial intelligence-based insights, along with voice-activated interaction using smart home devices like Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Baidu.
