Egypt’s Minister of Transportation Kamel Elwazir expressed on Sunday the ministry’s keenness in supporting the national economy, by maximising the benefit of the maritime transport sector. He explained that the ministry was working to develop all maritime ports, promising new investments opportunities in Egypt’s seaports including Alexandria, East Port Said, Damietta, Safaga, and Hurghada ports.

Elwazir received Singapore’s ambassador in Egypt Dominic Goh to discuss cooperation in the field of maritime transport, land ports, and logistics.

Goh hailed the good relations between Egypt and Singapore, adding that the Singaporean PSA Company, which is one of the world’s largest port operators, wishes to establish projects in Egypt including many multi-purpose plants in Alexandria port in addition to many projects in Port Said and Damietta Ports.

Meanwhile, Elwazir said that the ministry signed on Saturday a contract aimed at establishing a multi-purpose station in Alexandria port. Under the supervision of an international consulting company, a number of Egyptian companies specialised in the field of port constructions will be responsible for establishing the station which costs of EGP 5bn, within a year, he said.

Regarding Damietta port, there are investment opportunities in this important seaport, such as the multi-purpose station which was opened last month by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. The station is equipped with all the facilities needed to service ships and cargo.
