Cairo – Mubasher: Siemens Energy will supply the electrification package for the expansion of Cairo Metro’s Line 3, which will connect the capital with Cairo International Airport.

This project will be carried out in collaboration with the National Authority of Tunnels (NAT), COLAS RAIL, Orascom Constructions and Arab Contractors, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Siemens Energy has been providing power to Line 3 since its launch. Slated for completion by the end of June, the line’s Phase 4-B expansion will be supplied with gas insulated switchgear (GIS), which can operate maintenance-free for 25 years.

Additionally, the company’s substations will provide power to the new stations along the expanded line.

The new metro line will employ Siemens’ SIMATIC substation operating system and digital technology which is cost efficient, reliable, and controllable.

“To keep a metro system running on time and efficiently, the system requires a reliable supply of energy. That’s why we have combined advanced power transmission and digitalization solutions for the electrification of Cairo’s new metro line,” senior vice president at Siemens Energy Transmission Solutions in the Middle East, Mahmoud Hanafy, said.

“Through these solutions, we will improve availability and reliability of power systems, and make sure they achieve greater efficiency, while ensuring environmental protection,” Hanafy added.
