Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), one of the largest utility companies in Middle East and North Africa, has secured key ISO certifications - ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 for Information Technology Service Management and ISO/IEC 27001:2013 for Information Security Management - from Intertek, a leading total quality assurance provider to industries worldwide.

ISO 27001 is the best-known standard for information security management systems. Using this family of standards helps organizations manage the security of assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted to the company by third parties.

An information security management system is a systematic approach to managing sensitive company information so that it remains secure. ISO/IEC 20000-1 promotes the adoption of a service management system in order to provide value and consistency for both the customer and the service provider, said the statement from Intertek.

A major player in the region's utility sector, SEC had acquired certification for 50 different services within the company’s Information Technology and Communication systems.

The new certifications demonstrate that SEC serves its customers through establishing international communication centers supported by new technologies – providing communication platforms and services that comply with global standards.

The ISO certifications were presented to Sulayman A. AlSugair, the executive director for IT & Communication at SEC, by Samir Ahmed, the director of business assurance at Intertek (Gulf & Pakistan Region), during a special ceremony held at SEC headquarters in Riyadh.

Speaking at the event, AlSugair said: "At the heart of SEC’s success is the trust we earned for our continuous commitment to information technology and security. Achieving these certifications from Intertek, is a testament to our relentless drive to implementing best-in-class management system practices while ensuring that customers get consistent high-quality services."

Lauding the achievement, Ahmed said: "SEC’s journey to certification shows real commitment to be a world-class service provider."

"Expanding the certification scope to 50 services has added further value to their delivery of high-quality IT and communication services across Saudi Arabia, enabling them to manage their IT systems more efficiently while further minimizing any security risk to the business," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
