AMMAN The total number of visitors to Petra increased by 68 per cent in February, compared with the same period in 2018, Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) Suleiman Farajat said on Sunday.

In total, the ancient city received 74,413 visitors in February, compared with 49,268 during the same month last year, according to PDTRA figures sent to The Jordan Times. Farajat said that the PDTRA is redrafting its law to remove obstacles hindering investment in the area, stressing that the projects must suit the nature of the rose-red city.

He added that a number of development projects are underway in the Petra Reserve to better the level and quality of services provided and increase its preparedness to receive more tourists.
