Majid Al-Futtaim Group reopened on Saturday its recreational services in Egypt, including VOX Cinemas, Ski Egypt, Magic Planet, Little Explorers, and MELT Bistro & café.

The resumption of the company’s recreational services follows a directive from the Egyptian authorities for the country’s gradual reopening as part of its plan to coexist with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The group said that all brands under its umbrella have undertaken extensive precautionary measures, whilst also putting in place expansive sanitisation and social distancing plans.

During the temporary closures, Majid Al-Futtaim Group also conducted extensive research to identify the top safety measures that would ensure guests feel comfortable about returning to its entertainment concepts. The group added that it had also used the findings to proactively re-imagine the guest experience.

Omar El Banna, Country Head for Egypt and Kenya at Majid Al-Futtaim Ventures, said, “Since we reopened last month [in May], 93% of guests have said they are satisfied or extremely satisfied with our enhanced measures.”

El Banna added, “We will ensure a best in class experience in Egypt across our cinemas, food & beverage, and leisure and entertainment experiences with health, safety, and customer satisfaction at the core of our reopening plans.”

He noted that social distancing ambassadors have been introduced and instructional signs have been installed to guide customers at all the group’s properties on best physical distancing practices.

The customer capacity has been reduced, including in public areas such as restrooms and elevators, to ensure the best health and safety measures are being put in place. In cinema auditoriums, seats in front of, behind and next to a guest’s selection will be left vacant to maintain physical distancing.

There are also extensive measures in place to ensure that the highest levels of food safety are maintained. Employees will be following strict safety protocols, which include hourly sanitising of workstations and countertops, and hand-washing at least every 20 minutes and before handling food, El Banna said.
