ABU DHABI - GCC electricity grid saved around USD 220 million last year, rising the amount to USD 2.5 billion since the full operation of the project until the end of 2018, said a Gulf official on Monday.

This came in a statement by UAE's news agency quoting CEO of the GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) Ahmad Al-Ibrahim on the sidelines of World Future Energy Summit's exhibition (an event of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019).

Al-Ibrahim added that the savings included the cost of building new generating plants, and consequently the reduction of operating and maintenance costs, and carbon emissions.

GCCIA will continue carrying out its strategy through ensuring vital energy sources and energy security for all GCC states, he noted.
The authority plan will focus on providing several options regarding energy sources and achieving abundance to cover needs and ensure access of energy in all circumstances and at suitable prices.

He pointed out that the authority's participation at the exhibition included several lectures on three main topics covering the electricity grid, managing assets and energy trade.

GCCIA is keen to partaking in major events, which feature international and regional experts to share views, ideas and proposals as well as issue recommendations to develop the energy sector and promote GCC cooperation, he stressed. (end) bsu.hm
