Dubai – Dentons is pleased to announce that Alastair Young has joined the Middle East Construction and Dispute Resolution practice in Dubai.  Alastair recently relocated from Dentons' London office where he was based since joining the Firm in 2011. Alastair will initially lead Dentons' UAE Disputes practice and then the wider Middle East Disputes practice from 1 May 2017. Alastair has been practising in the Middle East whilst based in the UK since 2007 and has a wealth of experience acting for international companies operating in the region.

Alastair is dual qualified both as a barrister (since 1996) and as a solicitor (since 2007). He has extensive experience of all forms of dispute resolution, including litigation in the UK's Technology and Construction Court, statutory/contractual adjudication, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) (including mediation and expert determination) and domestic and international arbitration.

Alastair provides advice in relation to all types of construction and engineering disputes. As a result of his former experience at the Bar –where he undertook criminal and forensic work – he also advises businesses in relation to investigatory and regulatory matters. He has advised on the following matters:

·         advice to a joint venture relating to time and cost over runs concerning the construction of an FPSO;

·         advice to a large European Industrial in connection with an investigation in China and other Far East countries;

·         led the Dentons' team representing Goodman Logistics on the 'Accolade' litigation in the Technology and Construction Court in the UK. This case was identified by The Lawyer as one of the top-15 cases of 2015; and

·         advising a contractor in relation to the construction of a methane extraction process in central Africa.
