New attractions at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and launch of Yas Waterworld make 2013 the year to visit the leading leisure hot spot

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 3rd February 2013: Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world's first and only Ferrari-branded theme park, showcased its winning entertainment offering as part of the UAE's premiere leisure hot spot Yas Island, during a special event held in Kuwait City today.

The iconic attraction highlighted its enhanced line-up of new exciting attractions for Kuwaiti visitors to the UAE, the launch of the Yas Park Pass allowing combined entry with the neighbouring new mega waterpark Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, as well as a host of attractive promotional tools for its key travel trade partners in Kuwait.

"The UAE is a top leisure destination for Kuwaiti travellers and its proximity and high air-route connectivity make it a very popular choice for a fun family trip over long weekends and school breaks," said Bruno Wiley, Sales Director at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

"The park has been very popular with Kuwaitis since its opening. With family entertainment consistently ranking very highly as a travel motivator, and a preference for regular breaks to recharge and relax, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has an offering that perfectly answers the demands of Kuwaiti leisure travellers.

"The appeal of Yas Island as a short-break destination is now even higher - with its combination of two mega theme parks, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, a wide range of excellent hotels, a world-class golf course, a racing circuit and the concert arena hosting world class musical events, Yas Island has really upped its entertainment offering in the last few months," Wiley added.

In 2012, FWAD made a number of exciting new additions to its portfolio of rides and attractions.  One of the hottest entertainment highlights of the year was the launch of a brand new show - RED - a Theatrical Spectacular of Speed and Passion. The 25-minute show brings together an international cast in a spellbinding performance featuring shadow play, pas de deux performances, scarf dances, choreographed trampoline displays, juggling acts, German wheel sets and stunt skating - all woven together in a fun, romantic storyline.

Another popular addition was Viaggio in Italia - a technologically-advanced simulator ride that lifts guests into a giant inverted dome and takes them on a virtual flying journey over Italy. The Park also added a new interactive quiz Fast Lane that offers visitors a chance to win great prizes and the chance to gain bragging rights as the Fast Lane Champion, a fun mid-games alley inspired by all things automotive and Tyre Twist - a family tea-cup style ride lets visitors whirl around an oversized turntable in giant tyres, putting a unique Ferrari spin to a much-loved amusement park ride.

Increasing the value of the leisure offering on Yas Island, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi recently introduced the Yas Park Pass, a new dual-park combo ticket which allows guests to experience both parks during one day or more on the island.

The UAE's first mega waterpark, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi is set across 15 hectares of land adjacent to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and offers 43 rides, slides and attractions, many of which have never been seen before in waterparks. Highlights include the world's longest, fastest tornado waterslide Dawwama, the region's first looping waterslide Liwa Loop and the world's first interactive water and laser rollercoaster Slither's Slides. Its award-winning theme - based on an original story developed exclusively for the waterpark - pays tribute to the Emirati culture with the UAE's pearl-diving heritage at the core.

"Abu Dhabi's reputation as a safe and fun family entertainment destination continues to gather momentum with Kuwaiti travellers. With many new attractions, events and hotels coming online this year, plus the many daily flights between the two operating, we expect to see more Kuwaitis choosing the emirate for their short breaks," said Mubarak Al Shamsi, Country Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.

Last year some 17,870 Kuwaitis stayed in Abu Dhabi's 137 hotels and hotel apartments - which was a 12% rise on 2011 and ranked the state 20th among the emirate's top performing markets. The Kuwaiti hotel guests accounted for 44,763 room nights and notched up an average-length-of-stay of 2.5 nights. Throughout last year, Abu Dhabi saw its GCC hotel guest numbers swell 20 percent over the same period in 2011.
