Abu Dhabi, 16th April 2011: The Department of the Municipal Affairs (DMA) and the municipalities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi; Abu Dhabi city municipality, Al Ain city municipality, and the Western Region municipality will showcase 38 sustainable development projects during their participation at this year's Cityscape Abu Dhabi event at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 17-20 April 2011.  This event is under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

In addition to other sustainable municipal projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the new building codes and the Municipal Spatial Solutions Infrastructure (MSSI) are to be showcased by the DMA who is sponsoring this event as a foundation partner.

The new Abu Dhabi Building Codes aim to unify construction practices across the Emirate to create better, safer, greener building that are more cost-effective and durable, and that are built to higher health and safety standards. The Municipal Spatial Solutions Infrastructure (MSSI) project is related to sharing geographic information through developing a centralized Municipal Spatial Solutions Infrastructure and common spatial data of Abu Dhabi Emirate.

As for Al Ain municipality, it is showcasing six projects, including the Shobat Alwataa planning and development project.  This project is located south of the city and includes residential complexes and villas.  Another project is widening and upgrading Al Ain - Dubai road, which will increase the number of lanes and provide better safety on the road.  This road will also contribute to easing traffic on both ways by applying the most advanced standards.

With regards to the Western Region Municipality, it is showcasing about 17 projects, among them the Automatic irrigation pump station, Community Souq, Rock shore protection, Park 6, Madinat Zayed Educational Traffic Garden, Camel Races - Madinat Zayed Camel Race VIP and Camel Racetrack Grandstand, Mirfa Corniche, Mirfa Walkway.

Commenting on the Municipal System participation in Cityscape Abu Dhabi  2011, H.E Majid Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the DMA, said "The importance of the property sector in Abu Dhabi makes the Municipal System's participation very necessary, also the projects the DMA and the Emirate municipalities are showcasing, are part of the sustainable projects been undertaken by the government and they reflect our commitment to achieve sustainability as per Abu Dhabi 2030 vision which aims to enhance quality of life for the residents of the Emirate and investors and visitors". 

On the same line H.E Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Shareef under Secretary of the DMA SAID: "The Municipal System participation in Cityscape will pave the way to other participating companies to have a close look on the municipal system projects especially the new building codes which they will have to apply for  improving construction practices and to enhance building standards in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in addition to saving on energy and water and improving fire safety regulations with better protection against earthquakes and they will lead to a better, healthier and safer environment to the residents of the Emirate".   

With regards to Al Ain City Municipality Participation in Cityscape H.E Dr. Matar Mohamed Al Nuaimi said: "This participation comes at a time where Al Ain city is witnessing a boom in building and urban projects supported by the best international standards in the building and construction industry and by establishing a very solid infrastructure and offering best services to support the government 2030 vision for making Abu Dhabi's government one of the best in the world".

For the Western Region Municipality, it is focusing in its participation in Cityscape on projects related directly to customers like (TAM) centers, and there are six of them in the region, one in each city, making all services available under one roof.  H.E Hmood Hmaid Mubarak Al Mansouri General manager of the Western Region Municipality commented: "TAM experiment was a leading one, it succeeded in combining all services in one center and formed a major changing point in the Municipality's services system and reinforced our commitment to offer the best services to our customers and making life easier for them".   

All the projects showcased by the municipal system at Cityscape Abu Dhabi will play a major role in delivering better services to the public and enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the Emirate, in addition to achieving sustainable development all through Abu Dhabi.
