Shurooq and Sharjah Tatweer Forum discuss means of implementation and cooperation
Sharjah- 22 June 2011 - The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has met with a delegation from the Sharjah Tatweer Forum (Tatweer) to discuss 31 projects aimed at encouraging business and investment in the emirate, as proposed by the Forum's members.
The projects were earlier approved by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who met with Forum members during his recent visit to Kalba. It was in response to His Highness' recommendation that the projects be submitted to Shurooq for evaluation - in its capacity as the emirate's investment regulatory body - that the meeting was organized.
In attendance were HE Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq); Shurooq Chief Operations Officer Mr. Ahmad Obaid Al Qaseer; HE. Jassem Al Bloushi, chairman of the board of directors of the Sharjah Development Forum; and Tatweer board members Mrs. Reem bin Karam and Amal Al Ali. The Forum's Kalba representative was also present.
The parties reviewed the 31 proposed projects presented by members from the Sharjah Tatweer Forum's Kalba Branch, and listened to a detailed presentation on these projects and their importance for developing and promoting tourism, business and investment in the emirate.
They exchanged views and discussed joint avenues of cooperation, as well as the best possible ways of implementing the creative ideas and projects to enable them to effectively participate in the development of their country.
Shurooq and Sharjah Tatweer Forum will soon meet again to discuss proposals and suggestions related to mechanisms for developing the area, as well as to lay down an appropriate strategy for development while considering the region's heritage and archaeological identity.
Highlighting the importance of supporting and encouraging creativity among young Emiratis, Al Sarkal said: "The proposed projects, which were presented by our youth, are admirable and innovative. All of them garnered the attention of Sheikh Sultan, who subsequently approved them."
"In line with Sheikh Sultan's directives, we are keen to encourage and develop the young minds that conceived these projects. As such, we will incorporate them into the current plans followed in different parts of the emirate," Al Sarkal added.
The Shurooq CEO stressed the authority's support for these projects, which serve its vision and main mission to promote the emirate's economy and enhance its economic position.
He added that the meeting produced new and innovative ideas, and established appropriate measures for putting these projects in place, stating that proposals would be presented shortly in the light of the outcomes of the meeting with Sharjah Tatweer Forum.
On his part, HE Al Bloushi said: "The constructive cooperation between the forum and Shurooq will help enhance current projects. By utilizing Shurooq's leading expertise in the area of development and investment in the implementation of projects by the Forum's members, we will be better able to achieve the emirate's future aspirations and promote it as an oasis of investment."
He mentioned that the projects presented to Shurooq for discussion and implementation are based on the directions of HH The Ruler of Sharjah, who urged members from the Forum's Kalba branch to conceptualize ideas that would serve the city, meet its needs, and capitalize on the economical, tourism, social and service opportunities for the benefit of the people of Kalba.
Said Al Bloushi: "His Highness approved some of the ideas and recommended that these be shifted to the appropriate parties, which is in line with the Forum's role of supporting innovative ideas and directing these to the correct parties for implementation."
The 31 proposed projects are based on creative ideas with promising and attractive opportunities that cover the emirate's economic, tourist and leisure interests. The projects - generated by forums youth - vary in terms of form, content and idea, but all are in line with the emirate's approach of projecting a modern image while preserving its rich heritage and architectural identity, key factors that distinguish Sharjah from other emirates.
