The Doha Bank Group CEO is recognized by the leading US institute for his contribution to the banking industry

The Washington College, one of the leading liberal arts institutions in the United States, has conferred an honorary doctorate on Mr. R Seetharaman, Group Chief Executive Officer, Doha Bank. The honorary Doctors of Laws degree awarded to the banking industry veteran is in recognition of his unique and valuable contributions to society in the field of banking and business.
Mr. Seetharaman was presented the honorary degree at 229th commencement function of Washington College at its campus on May 20, 2012.
Mr. R. Seetharaman, after accepting the Doctorate title, said "I would like to thank Washington College and its President Mr. Mitchell Reiss, the Board of Governors, faculty and staff of Washington College for conferring this incredible honor on me. It is an honour to be a part of this esteemed academic family, and to join my fellow honorees in becoming a permanent part of this University and this global network of friends."
Mr. R. Seetharaman gave his outlook on the changing face of the world. He said "My being here today is testament to the connected and interdependent world that we live in. The world used to operate like a series of islands but, today we have near total economic interdependence, a result of dramatic technological and communications innovations. If the world of yesterday was a group of islands, today it is like facebook - one open, transparent network. We are all the content providers across this network. "
He said "As a banker, I not only use social network to facilitate capital flows, but to push for reforms and social responsibility. But the generation of graduates we are here to celebrate today students of today will be the key for assured growth and change in the world. Your minds are wired to this new global order that rewards interdependence and innovation. The future strength of the world will rely on your ability to successfully harness these networks and share new ideas and economic possibilities. I urge each of you today to prioritize innovation and creativity in whatever paths you may follow. As you look to your future, look from a perspective of confidence and opportunity. There is much to do and together we can forge the future path of this nation and our world."
Washington College was founded in 1782 as the first college in the new United States of America.
Some of the luminaries who have received honorary degrees from Washington College include US Presidents George Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, Dwight D Eisenhower and George H.W. Bush; Nobel laureates James Watson, C.N. Yang; and historians David McCullough and Stephen Ambrose.
