- Enterprises in Bahrain Redefine the Technology Landscape and Get Virtual with Hyper-V-

Manama, Bahrain - - Furthering its commitment to product innovation, Microsoft Bahrain today announced that the Ministry of Works has become the first early adopters of Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V in the Kingdom. In addition, the early deployment signifies the evolution of the Bahraini technology landscape as enterprises take to virtualization to help reduce infrastructure costs and improve hardware utilization. At an event titled, I.T. Evolution 2008, Microsoft Bahrain today articulated an expanded role for virtualization as a key enabler of its Dynamic IT vision and outlined a companywide strategy to help accelerate the broad adoption of virtualization in the country.

"With Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager, it seems that we are at the cusp of a new adoption wave", said Badea Esbai, Country Manager, Microsoft Bahrain. "We believe that Microsoft's comprehensive approach to virtualization is unique to the industry as it delivers solutions that address virtualization from the desktop to the datacenter with broad physical and virtual management capabilities. Our approach is not only one of the most comprehensive in the market today, but we believe it is also one of the most economical. This combination brings a big strategic advantage and cost savings to customers like the Ministry of Works who view IT infrastructure as a strategic asset and are leading the way for the adoption of virtualization in the country."

The adoption of Hyper-V is seeing significant traction amongst Bahrain's public sector as government entities look towards virtualization to manage computing resources. The Ministry of Works is the first public sector organization in Bahrain to deploy Hyper-V to reduce costs, increase hardware utilization, optimize infrastructure and improve server availability.

Jalal Anwar Al Mutawa, Head of Network Management, Ministry of Works said, "The Ministry of Works is focused on the adoption of next-generation technology solutions that will help improve national competitiveness and drive economic growth by delivering its services more efficiently and cost-effectively. We were looking for a virtualization solution that would reduce our hardware footprint through server consolidation and IT operational and maintenance costs. Microsoft provides a decent suite of technologies to enable an integrated, high performance virtualized infrastructure and Hyper-V 2008 has proved to be a powerful, reliable, easy to use tool, enabling us to rapidly consolidate servers and introduce new services quicker."

Hyper-V is a key feature of Windows Server 2008 and is available as a free web download. It is designed to provide customers with familiar and cost-effective virtualization infrastructure software and is part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to provide customers and partners with the best operating system platform for virtualization. In addition, System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 is designed to deliver a simple, integrated management solution to manage across customers' infrastructure: from the physical to the virtual; from the hardware to the application and services.
