Proceeds of percentage of sales to go to supporting Pink Caravan's awareness campaign

Sharjah, 18 May 2012 - A unique abaaya design with pink details, aptly named 'Lady in Pink' designed by Ghizlan, a Sharjah-based Emirati fashion house, is a creative approach to make a unique contribution towards the Pink Caravan's awareness campaign. Ghizlan who specializes in traditional abaayas among other ready-to-wear dresses took the extra mile to show their support of the Pink Caravan's efforts by producing this special edition abaaya, which is was available on order, with percentage of its sales going to the Pink Caravan.

In response, HE Ameera BinKaram, Founding member and President of Friends of Cancer Patients, has expressed the Pink Caravan's appreciation for the tremendous support they have received from businesses such as Ghizlan, as well as countless individuals, during and around the Caravan's second annual ride.

"The aim of the Pink Caravan is to spread awareness of the importance of early detection in the treatment of breast cancer across all walks of society, and therefore the levels of support we have witnessed from all levels of the community are both encouraging and highly gratifying. It is this support that allowed us to reach and surpass our targets for the second annual ride and, even more importantly, will empower us to reach out to even greater numbers of the UAE's inhabitants in the future," said HE BinKaram.

HE BinKaram also stressed the importance of the involvement of the entire community in initiatives such as the Pink Caravan, stating that those small and continued contributions from local businesses and the man on the street have just as much power to aid charitable organisations in their work as singular donations from big corporations. "Ghizlan's initiative is a prime example of the type of contribution that smaller businesses can make to aid the Pink Caravan in their endeavours," added HE BinKaram.

Iman Al Midfa, Founder and Creative Director at Ghizlan commented, "Social responsibility and giving back to the community should not only be the domain of large corporations, but the responsibility of every person within the community no matter who they are. It is our honour to contribute to such a worthy cause as the Pink Caravan and we hope our involvement will encourage others to do the same."

HE Ameera BinKaram went on to remark that it is not only the contribution of large corporations that ensures the Pink Caravan's success but that individuals and businesses across the spectrum have a vital role to play.

Pink Caravan's campaign will run annually until 2014, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

The Pink Caravan's aims to spread greater awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular tests, and raise funds to buy a 3D mammogram clinic, which will provide free tests for citizens and expatriates in the country.
