Hyundai Rotem accredited for 9 million safe working hours

Arab Contractors honoured for 12 million safe working hours

Muscat: Haya Water hosted an event to celebrate the achievement of its contractors Hyundai Rotem & Hyundai Engineering as a joint venture and National United Engineering and Contracting Company as a joint venture in delivering nine million and twelve million safe working hours, respectively.

These projects are an integral part of Haya Water's world class water reuse project that is currently being implemented across the whole of the Muscat Governorate area.  While Hyundai Rotem & Hyundai Engineering as a JV have successfully completed about 88.31% of the Seeb STP construction works, the network being undertaken by Arab Contractors & National United Engineering and Contracting Company as a JV is now at 99.55%. It includes a 71.25Km pipeline and has already connected about 8,383 dry plot connections in the Mabella areas.

The celebration event held at Radisson Sas Hotel marked the milestone and was hosted by Haya Water Chief Executive officer Hussain Hassan Ali AbdulHussain who made presentations to the respective companies to celebrate the achievements and their hard working employees.

Safety has always been of paramount importance to Haya Water as the project will ultimately impact on individuals, families, companies and other organisations across ever corner of the Muscat Governorate area.

Haya Water Chief Executive Officer Hussain Hassan Ali AbdulHussain said: "We are enormously proud of our contractors who have achieved this extraordinary milestone on behalf of Haya Water.  It is a rare situation for such few civil engineering projects around the world to have been able to celebrate so many millions of hours of safe working.  It would be impossible for Haya Water's project to be successful without the hard work, efforts and commitment of our contractors.

"These awards being given away today are a testament to the professionalism and expertise of our partners at Hyundai Rotem & Hyundai Engineering as a JV and Arab Contractors & National United Engineering and Contracting Company as a JV have displayed in our association. I would like to express our gratitude and appreciation towards the excellent work that they have already achieved on our behalf. The nature and complexity of their project means that we interact with the public and other stakeholders regularly - this makes it all the more necessary that we are in tandem with our associates towards making Muscat a better city."

Haya Water's water reuse project is now well underway and is one of the largest and most complex civil engineering projects ever undertaken in Oman and will be the biggest single development of its kind in the Middle East.

Mr. AbdulHussain explained that as a business Haya Water aspires to reach the very best internationally recognised standards for all of its operations.  The company goes through an extensive due diligence process when securing contracting partners and this latest milestone reinforces the success of their activities in these areas.

Recently, the company also celebrated its own accomplishment of 2 million safe working hours, and rewarded the HSE Employee of the Month. Such initiatives reflect Haya Water's keenness to develop its safety record on a continuous and long standing basis.

Thousands of kilometres of pipeline has already been laid to connect homes and businesses to the new network as part of Haya Water's enormous water reuse project initiative that will replace the old, smelly and inefficient septic tank system that is currently used by most properties in Muscat.
