The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority hosted the 17th meeting of the Security Experts Committee, held from March 3rd - 6th in Abu Dhabi. The meeting included a series of discussions on civil aviation related topics that serve the information exchange, threats and risk evaluation and cargo security efforts in the Arab region, affecting countries' ability to improve civil aviation security levels.  The meeting was attended by representatives from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Palestine, Mauritania, Lebanon, Sudan and the UAE.

"The Civil Aviation Security Experts' Committee works to ensure full cooperation and coordination among member countries in civil aviation issues, focusing mainly on security measures in Arab airports," HE Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of the Executive Council at the Arab Civil Aviation Commission, said as he expressed his pleasure over hosting the security committee's meeting in the UAE. "The committee is among the most important bodies working on achieving ICAO's objectives, seeking to implement decisions that protect civil aviation  against illegitimate activities, while continuously developing and updating data and information that help Arab countries prepare their national aviation security programs, and help train Arab professionals in the field."

Hamad Al Muhairi, Acting Executive Director Aviation Security Affairs at the GCAA, asserted the importance of hosting this meeting in the UAE, which underlines the leading role the country has achieved on the regional and international scene, especially in the field of civil aviation. He added that several organizational and technical issues have been discussed by the committee, while the International Agreement on Aviation Security and its implications on aviation security have been revised and activated. The meeting witnessed discussions on the new measures implemented in the EU regarding the security of air cargo and mail, as well as information exchange and Arab cooperation in aviation security. The latest updates in the sector were presented alongside member experiences and best practices in the field of aviation security, according to Al Muhairi.
