Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) today announced the winners of its "Ericsson Networked Society Innovation Awards" during an award ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel, Beirut, Lebanon under the patronage of the Minister of Labor in Lebanon, Charbel Nahhas. The event was hosted by Ericsson's Head of North Middle East region, Tarek Saadi and attended by a number of leading media.
The three winners of the contest, which was held under the theme of 'Evolution of Wireless Telecom from GSM to WCDMA and LTE', were presented with awards by Tarek Saadi and Antoine Bustani, Ministry of Labor representative, on behalf of Charbel Nahhas and won internships at Ericsson in Lebanon in addition to the latest smartphone from Sony Ericsson.
"We would like to congratulate all three contestants for winning the competition as well as all the students who took part. Ericsson is very proud to be offering this platform to university students and will continue to organize similar initiatives in Lebanon and across the region to prepare tomorrow's leaders for the challenges of the real world of telecommunications," said Tarek Saadi.
Tarek adds "The students who took part in this competition are tomorrow's leaders and this experience will bring them one step closer to the real and challenging world of telecommunications. In order to realize our vision of a Networked Society, innovation and local talents will play a key role in realizing an all connected world. This program is aimed to help students connect their ideas to the Networked Society. It explains the value of what their innovative ideas can bring to the world. We're proud to have launched this project as it reflects our commitment to Lebanon, the region and the local talents. We hope to continue to provide these students with intellectual initiatives that will help build human capital and local capabilities."
The Competition was part of Ericsson's academic engagement program in Lebanon and saw over a 100 students from seven Lebanese universities take part as the winners were judged by a panel that included Ericsson executives and professors from the participating universities.
The winners of the contest were Hassan Jammal from Ecole Superieure d' Ingenieur a Beirut (ESIB) Mohamad Ali Yassin also from ESIB and Jessica Abdallah from Balamand University.
