The initiative came in time with the UAE's celebrations of its 41st National Day

Dubai: In time with the UAE's celebrations of its 41st National Day, The Dubai Women's Establishment has announced the launching of "UAE Women's Index Report" which is aimed to serve as an up-to-date reference on facts and figures pertaining to Emirati women in the various sectors of the job market as well as in education. The resource will come in handy for local and international organizations, academics, researchers and all those concerned with the status of women in the UAE.

On this occasion, Shamsa Saleh, CEO of DWE said: "This Index represents an integral part of DWE mission in doing extensive research, and qualitative and statistical studies aimed to determine the conditions of the working women in the United Arab Emirates. We are pleased to introduce the product of these tireless efforts to everyone interested in women's issues, which will contribute enhancing opportunities for women's development, and enable them to participate actively in economic and social development of UAE, in line with the vision and strategy of our establishment. "

Saleh added that DWE is keen to support all projects and initiatives that seek to enable women to play a greater role domestically and internationally, developing the capabilities of UAE women, highlighting their active role in society, encouraging and facilitating the participation of Emirati women in the workforce and society. Noting that UAE Women's Index Report represents a fundamental step in this context, as an important pillar to understand the status of women in the UAE and to promote the strengths and avoid the negative aspects. "

This index will serve as a comprehensive reference which will be constantly updated. This will save researchers and others concerned about the status of UAE women all troubles of communicating with multiple organizations to gather data as it contains ample information based on the global parameters governing gender differences. It will also comprise statistics concerning economy, education, politics, health, society and other spheres that researchers in this area may require."

In the current situation where international and local researchers are striving to know more about UAE woman, they face a major challenge which is the lack of data and figures related to different fields and sectors. Due to the lack of information and the access to the available data, international organizations could not reflect the correct image of UAE women at international recognized publications. Therefore the need of a handy, direct to the point source is necessary and would add value to the existing information.

Rather than approaching multiple organizations, it would be more effective and time efficient to find it all in one.  UAE Women Index will be the point of reference for anyone interested in finding out more about UAE women.

It is, therefore, not surprising that the results contained in the report confirms the excellent position of the country in regard to the empowerment of women. In this context, not only that the country has surpassed many other developing countries but also achieved a greater degree of equality between the sexes. In the education sector, the principal domain of human welfare, women constitute 51% of university graduates every year.

In the sphere of politics and in top positions of the country, women have come to occupy leading positions, including 4 ministers in the current government and 17.5% of the Federal National Council. With respect to business and investments, UAE women made her presence felt in a remarkable way as well.

The UAE Women Index Report aims to become a definitive guide on all aspects of women's empowerment in the society and economy. It is envisioned in the framework of the Dubai Women's Establishment's objective of developing the capacities of UAE women, highlighting their effective role in the society and encouraging their participation in the social and professional spheres. The Establishment undertakes a vast amount of research and studies and churns out statistical facts and figures with the aim of identifying the status of UAE women, in addition to launching initiatives aimed at strengthening development opportunities for them. It also sends recommendations and suggestions on policies and initiatives on women to the government of Dubai with a view to enable them to play a greater role locally and internationally.

The launch of the UAE Women's Index Report is being done in association with the National Bureau of Statistics, the official body responsible for preparing a statistical base for the country. The association is based on a memorandum of cooperation between the two organizations, which envisages exchange of information and joint projects.
