The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Roger Gifford, addresses Cass and City University students, alumni and staff at Dubai's Capital Club
The Cass Dubai Centre, the UAE branch of City University London's Cass Business School, yesterday welcomed the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Roger Gifford, at an alumni event held in Dubai to mark the school's ongoing commitment to world class business education.
Speaking at the event, which was held at the Capital Club at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), also the location of the Cass Dubai Centre, the Lord Mayor, who is Chancellor of City University London, addressed students, alumni, faculty staff as well as media and discussed the achievements of the school over the past year.
Alderman Roger Gifford said: "Cass Business School's programme in Dubai is a vital part of the UK's aim to support education, training and qualifications in the UAE, as our collaboration will achieve mutually-beneficial exchange of talent, ideas and capital.
"The UK's world-class education sector is key to developing and attracting the talent needed by firms operating in the global financial services industry. Cass Business School's specialist post-graduate MBA is helping to shape the next generation of leaders, and now boasts alumni at the forefront of business all over the world."
"This year, and for the first time, the Cass Dubai Centre will welcome a second annual intake of students. This is not only a tribute to the popularity and success of the EMBA programme, but also highlights the need for institutions like our own to continue to serve the demands of the next generation of business leaders."
Ehsan Razavizadeh, Regional Director, MENA and Head of the Dubai Centre said: "Since 2007, the Cass Dubai Centre has striven to meet the needs of business executives in the Middle East and surrounding regions and continues to attract a vast pool of skilled and multilingual talent from all over the world.
"We are honoured to welcome the Lord Mayor to Dubai to meet with alumni and staff of the Cass Dubai Centre. Our close connection with the London campus, where Cass has built strong relationships with the City of London, is one of the centre's greatest assets."
The Lord Mayor's visit also comes just weeks after the inauguration of the new Dean of Cass Business School, Professor Steve Haberman, who has taken over from Richard Gillingwater following six years of the latter's leadership.
Professor Haberman graduated in mathematics from the University of Cambridge, qualified as an FIA in 1975, and obtained his PhD and DSc in actuarial science from City University. He is a former member of both the Council of the Institute of Actuaries and the Financial Reporting Council's Board for Actuarial Standards and is a current member of Legal and General's Longevity Science Advisory.
