'Eventice Middle East' demonstrates impact of corporate team building

biz-events, the Middle East's largest and longest established provider of corporate team building events, put eightevent industry hopefuls through their paces yesterday during the final stage of The EventiceMiddle East.

Held as part of The Middle East EVENTS Show, TheEventice Middle East is the regional adaptation of the popular UK-based graduate recruitment initiative that goes by the same name.

The two-day competition, organised by ESP Recruitment, challenged participating students to win themselves placements at two of the leading event companies in the Middle East, Informa Exhibitions and Innovations Unlimited Middle East.

Entrants were required to go through a series of presentations, interviews and interactive challenges created and adjudicated by biz-events to prove their merit. Tasks were designed to test a variety of skills important to event industry jobs including communication, creativity, adaptability, problem-solving, teamwork and the ability to work under pressure.

The first day of the competition saw participants undertake a series of four practical tasks beginning with a scavenger hunt across the city that tested their enthusiasm and time management ability. Other tasks involved engaging with show visitors to display their selling skills and persuasiveness while creativity and planning capabilities were assessed through a mock event creation and execution challenge.

The 'Create an Event' activity required students to work with an event brief and build an imaginary concept which they presented to a panel of judges on the final day. Students were evaluated on the ingenuity and viability of their ideas as well as their foresight of challenges and possible solutions. The competition ended with a series of presentations and one-on-one interviews with employers.

The teamactivities not only helped event organisers and judges to identify the cream of the crop, but also demonstrated the power of such initiatives to overcome organisational challenges.

Andrew Fieldhouse, Commercial Manager, biz-events commented, "The Eventice is a great platform to demonstrate the impact of corporate team building to achieve very specific business objectives. In this case it was finding the best two events candidates to fulfil specific positions. Whatever the business requirement - from motivating a workforce, to aligning teams or strengthening organisational culture - team building can help achieve it a positive and impactful way."
