MANAMA 28th July 2008: HSBC, the Lead Consultant to the Government of Bahrain for its Muharraq sewage treatment plant, has today issued a Request for Qualification to bidders to build, own and operate the plant.

The sewage treatment plant will be located in the Muharraq region of the Kingdom, and will process 90,000-100,000 cubic metres per day. It is expected that during the course of the project, this will be increased to 160,000 cubic metres.

The bidding process is open to local and international organizations that fulfill eligibility criteria including experience of the development, ownership, operation and maintenance of one or more sewage treatment plants of similar or higher treatment capacities and complexities.

HSBC Bank Middle East has been appointed as lead consultant to the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain in relation to the project, and is supported by Fichtner GmbH  and Norton Rose (Middle East) LLP.
