Alba provides sponsorship support to UOB's College of Engineering's Go Green 2013 project
Go Green 2013 is aimed at designing new and improved versions of the solar and fuel cell powered vehicles that were initiated at UOB's College of Engineering
The focus of the project is to represent Bahrain at international competitions that are focused on developing eco-friendly technologies
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)'s commitment to remain at the forefront of promoting research in eco-friendly technologies provided the incentive behind the company's sponsorship support for the new versions of the solar and fuel cell cars being developed at the University of Bahrain (UOB)'s College of Engineering as part of the Go Green 2013 project.
Alba's Chief Operating Officer, Isa Al Ansari and Senior Manager for Human Resources & Public Relations, Abdul Rahman Janahi met a senior delegation from UOB's College of Engineering to affirm Alba's support for the green venture.
The delegation was led by the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Nader M. Al Bastaki and also included, Head of Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Shaker M. Haji and Associate Professor, Dr. Mustafa Habib as well as Go Green 2013 Team Leader (Engineering Student), Ahmed Mohammed Al Balooshi.
Go Green 2013 project has been launched to represent Bahrain at international competitions like the World Solar Challenge, Shell Eco-Marathon (Euro Germany and Asia) and others. The project is aimed at designing and manufacturing improved versions of the existing solar and fuel cell powered vehicles using advanced materials that have higher strength to weight ratio, and backed with advanced technologies to build new racing solar and hydrogen fuel vehicles.
Commenting on Alba's sponsorship support for Go Green 2013 project, the company's Hygiene, Safety & Environment Manager, Abdulla Yaqoob Senan said:

This focus is not only about good corporate social responsibility but also about protecting the environment for future generations. Hence, we are highly encouraged to see students from UOB's College of Engineering involved in developing technologies that meet the very same goals, and we are proud to give our support to the Go Green 2013 project. We wish them and the UOB faculty all success in a venture that will certainly raise Bahrain's profile globally."
In 2008, UOB's College of Engineering had launched its two ambitious vehicle projects - the solar and fuel cell powered vehicles that were regarded as one of its kind in the Arab world. The students are now working on new versions of the vehicles that have lighter weights, using carbon fibre bodies and packed with enhanced aerodynamics.
