Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) has ordered punitive closure of the Hamdan Street branch of Chilis restaurant (license number 1027066) in the capital today, following an inspection.
The inspectors of the Authority found the restaurant was violating several rules and regulations governing food safety in the emirate. The hygienic conditions in the restaurant were so bad that the Authority decided to immediately order its closure in the interest of public health and safety.
Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, Director of Communication and Community Service at ADFCA said that the restaurant would remain closed until rectifying the caused of closure. "The restaurant was violating several rules and regulations concerning food safety.," he pointed out.
Lack of commitment of all staff to cover the hair in the preparation area, storing cooking equipment in an electrical room and overflowing sewage pipes in cooking areas and spice cans on the cutting boards meant for cooked foods.
"We call upon the general public to bring food safety violations to our notice all across the emirate. The types of violations found in the Chillis Restaurant could have caused many health hazards for the consumers. The safety of the consumers is of paramount importance for us and we will not be lenient with regard to any negligence or violation, regardless of the size, reputation or popularity of the food outlet," Al Reyaysa stressed.
