Abu Dhabi, Jan 27th, 2012 (WAM) -- A local newspaper today shone lights on the emerging role of UAE in the global film industry.

"In its efforts to promote the arts and cultural activity, the UAE has shown a keen interest recently in the film-making industry", said Gulf news in its editorial under the title 'Gaining Oscar recognition'.

Now there's an agenda to provide financial and technical support towards this field, it noted.

With the release in tinsel town earlier this week of the Oscar nominations, this has been brought to the spotlight. Receiving four Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture, The Help was co-produced by Abu Dhabi's Image Nation, added the paper.

The accolades come at a time when the UAE has never received any recognition in the Academy Awards process.

"Hopefully, The Help will change that record", predicted the paper.

With media production zones in place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the UAE is well poised to play a significant part in the development of a meaningful film industry in the Middle East. Events such as the international film festivals in Abu Dhabi and Dubai show that the nation is on the minds of movie moguls, it noted.

"Long may that continue", the paper stressed.
