Dubai, Jan. 8th, 2007 (WAM)----Dubai Municipality has sought cooperationfrom private firms in improving the living conditions of workersin Dubai as the city braces for further progress and prosperityin all sectors.

"The civic body is committed to work with theprivate sector in maintaining highest public health standardsin Dubai", said Salim Bin Mesmar, Director of Public HealthDepartment at the municipality.

Mesmar was addressing a gathering of representatives of variouscompanies handpicked by Dubai Municipality as outstanding performersin areas related to public health, including those companieswhich provide the best accommodation to their workers and improvedsafety at workplaces.

Companies felicitated for "Best Labour Accommodation" includedAl Futtaim Carillion Tarmac, Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Wade Adams,Intercat Trading, Gulf Real Estate Consortium (Gresco), Le RoyalMeridian Beach Resort & Spa, Dusit Dubai, Jebel Ali Golf Resort& Spa, Roshan Contracting, Jumeirah Beach Resort, Al Basti &Muktha.

"These companies have a proven track record in providing theirworkers and other staff with superb living conditions in termsof space, food, recreational and sanitary facilities. Our inspectorshave visited these accommodations and found them outstanding.

By honoring these companies, we encourage other establishmentsto treat their workers in a dignified way," said Mr. Mesmar.

The companies which were honored for Work Place Safety were:Al Tajir Glass Industries, Lionweled Kennedy Middle East, EmiratesPrinting Press, Al Futtaim Motors, Gulf Centre for Soap & ChemicalIndustries, and Jotun Paints UAE Ltd.

"These companies offer a safe working environment and striveto minimize the impact of their activities on environment," hesaid.

Other categories of companies which were felicitated in theceremony included "A Grade Establishments" that have an excellenttrack record in controlling health hazards related to their activitiesand developing their staff's hygiene practices and knowledge,"Supporting Enterprises For Awareness Programs," the organizationsand associations that voluntarily support the department's healthawareness programmes and involve deeply in spreading knowledge,"E - Services Customers", the establishments that heavily usethe municipality's e-services and recorded the highest numberof online transactions, and "Collaborating Enterprises", theestablishments that have a clean record in importing productsthat fully comply with health regulations.
