Three new thermal power plants will go on stream by the end of the present government's tenure, said an Energy Ministry officials.

Habib Hajizadeh said inauguration of four thermal power plants in the current year (started March 20, 2012) has helped increase power production capacity by 1,900 megawatts (MW).

Zagros Power Plants in Kermanshah province, Soltanieh Power Plant in Zanjan province, and Semnan and Shahroud power plants in Semnan province are those which were inaugurated in the current year, Mehr News Agency quoted him saying.

He also put the power generation capacity of Seman and Shahroud power plants at 324 MW, adding each of Zagros and Soltanieh power plants has 648 MW of electricity generation capacity.

Hajizadeh went on to say that construction of the two gas units with the electricity generation capacity of 324 MW in Iranshahr Power Plant is in its final stage.

Four gas units with the total capacity of 648 MW are being built by domestic experts in Hormuzgan Power Plant, he said adding new Mahshahr power plants will also become operational by the end of the present government's tenure.
