Iran and Oman have increased trade transactions to $250 million in the last Iranian year (ended March 20), the director of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran for Persian Gulf said.

Farzad Piltan made the announcement on the sidelines of a meeting between Iranian and Omani businessmen in Iran's Arvand Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on Monday.

Piltan pointed to the current status of Tehran-Muscat trade ties, calling on the two countries' trade companies to enhance mutual cooperation.

Iran and Oman have expanded cooperation in numerous areas, including economy and defense, since President Ahmadinejad took office in 2005. The two countries signed a security agreement in August 2009.

In August 2010, Iran and Oman signed an agreement to boost cooperation in the field of defense.

In December 2010, the Iranian Parliament approved a bill that allows Tehran to implement an agreement on security cooperation with Oman.
