Damascus - Chairman and members of Damascus Chamber of Commerce discussed on Thursday with a delegation from Istanbul Mineral Exporters Association in Turkey enhancing economic, trade and investment relations between the two sides.

The role of Syrian and Turkish businessmen in improving bilateral relations as to reflect positively on the two countries' economies were also discussed during the meeting.

Chairman of Damascus Chamber of Commerce Ghassan al-Qalaa stressed the importance of exerting more efforts to implement the agreements between Syria and Turkey and carrying out joint investment projects and partnerships.

He also underlined the importance of developing and broadening land and sea lanes and increasing the number of air trips from the Syrian airports to the Turkish cities as to meet the needs of the growing economic, trade and tourism relations between Syria and Turkey.

Dervis Rustem, Foreign Trade Advisor at the Turkish Cabinet, underlined the interest of the delegation in enhancing cooperation with their Syrian counterparts, particularly in the field of electronics, and creating a nucleus for cooperation as well as economic and trade partnerships targeting neighboring markets.

The economic and trade relations between Syria and Turkey witnessed marked progress in the wake of the Free Trade Zone agreement in early 2007, which doubled trade exchange that reached nearly USD 2 billions. The two countries aspire for trade exchange volume to reach USD 5 billions in the coming three years.
