Damascus - Ministry of Industry and Damascus chamber of Industry signed Thursday a memo of understanding to establish a nonprofit food industry development center.
According to the agreement, Ministry of Industry gives the property number 164 in Hosh Plas region while Damascus Chamber of Industry conducts the process of building the center and the EU is responsible for providing equipment and techniques needed under a grant valued at Euro 7 millions.
The project aims at establishing laboratories that are specialized in food industries, internationally accredited and match the international standards; so to serve both public and private sectors and scientific researches.
The center attempts to introduce new techniques in food industry sector and to establish a special section for documents, data, information and all other decrees related to this industry, another one for training and qualification and a technological unit to develop packaging in addition to a section specialized in providing technical consultations and putting marketing strategies and studies related to private and public food sector in particular.
Minister al-Juni, who signed the memo, considered the center as a start for partnership between the two sectors, hoping to be followed by other centers in different industrial fields to improve their quality, increase their competitiveness and so to be able to enter the foreign markets.
