Manama: Bahrain's culture and information minister has urged university media students to join in the drive to revamp the state-owned television and radio stations.
"We look forward to you contributing your talent and creativeness to enhance the content and format of Bahrain's broadcasting media. We feel that young people, as enthusiastic as you are, can reinvigorate them and bring in a much-needed breeze," Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al Khalifa told students as she broke new ground by visiting Al Ahliya University, one of the first private higher education institutions in Bahrain.
"Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation is looking for young men and women who feel they can contribute in one way or another to its new image under its new leadership. I would be really thrilled to see you and other young people from the Gulf countries come along and work with us," said the minister.
Reaching out to students has become a hallmark of Shaikha Mai whose comeback to the front scene six months after she left the ministry as assistant undersecretary for culture and heritage has generated optimism the state-run broadcast media, long seen as unable to keep pace with the information openness and tolerance seen in Bahrain, will finally be able to reconcile with Bahraini and Arab viewers.
