Muscat: The First International Nursing Conference on 'Innovations in Nursing Education and Practice Leading to Quality Care' to be hosted by Sultan Qaboos University's (SQU) College of Nursing from November 28 to 29, would showcase the emerging themes in nursing.
The official inaugural ceremony of the conference will be held at 9.00 am tomorrow, at the Conference Hall, Sultan Qaboos University under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Saidy, minister of health.
Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al Hussein from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will deliver the keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
Nation-wide holidays
A communiqué issued by the organisers said that although the event dates coincide with the nation-wide declared holidays, the conference will be conducted as scheduled. The organising committee with its various sub-committees have been working tirelessly over the last eighteen months to make this event successful.
"Hence, all delegates and participants are expected to participate in the golden opportunity of attending this unique scientific event", it added. The event is organised in association with Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Ministry of Health and Armed Forces Hospital in Oman. The partnership between these organisations provides the team work necessary to ensure a successful international conference.
This venture is the beneficiary of a grant from the Diwan of Royal Court. Generous contributions were made by the Sultan Qaboos University, Oman Research Council, Qalhat LNG, Khimji Ramdas, Petroleum Development Oman, Muscat Pharmacy & Stores, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), MHD Infotech, Ministry of Health and Pfizer Nutrition".
Almost nine years after establishing the pioneer baccalaureate nursing programme in the country, the College of Nursing at SQU has now reached a milestone in its march of progress with the upcoming international conference.
The conference has created momentum which is reflected by the registration of more than 1,200 participants. The event also features 100 oral presentations, 60 poster presentations, 25 exhibition counters, 11 plenary sessions, 7 pre-conference workshops, 6 concurrent sessions and so on.
The salient features of the conference are significant keynote addresses by the International Council of Nurses, the World Health Organization and internationally well known nurse experts from countries all over the world.
Poster presentations
Pre-conference workshops, plenary sessions along with concurrent oral and poster presentations will focus on the professions' key contemporary issues based on conference themes.
The organisers informed that the resource team and beneficiaries are from different parts of the world, and with varied background. Transcultural nursing is well depicted by the global representation of participants from 20 countries.
It is expected that the conference will bring forth valuable recommendations and address dual challenges of nursing practice and education.
The communiqué added, "Through this conference, SQU is looking forward to a better future of nursing profession in the country.
"The conference provides opportunity to socialise and to share the tradition and culture of the delegates.
