A Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) delegation yesterday held talks with delegates of CAPEXIL, an Indian business support organisation for promotion of export, who are currently visiting Qatar.

The meeting, attended by a number of Qatari businessmen and their Indian counterparts, aimed at exchanging views on opportunities and prospects of co-operation between the two countries in areas such as sawn timber, garnet sand, illuminate and polished granite slabs, among others.

Remy Rowhani, director general, QCCI, said that as Qatari market is expanding it is seeking partnerships in vital sectors, while asserting that QCCI will provide all-out support and assistance to the businessmen of the two countries.

Hailing historic trade ties and cultural similarity between the two countries, Sasi Kumar, deputy chief at the Indian embassy in Qatar, said the volume of trade between the two reached $13.7bn in 2011-12.

The Indian delegation arrived earlier in Doha on a three-day visit to Qatar to explore trade opportunities in the country.

Led by CAPEXIL deputy director I Rajamannar, the delegation includes representatives from sawn timber, garnet sand, illuminate and polished granite slabs, among other sectors.

CAPEXIL is non-profit organisation set up by the India's ministry of commerce to promote export of chemical and allied products.

The Indian embassy said the visit is being co-ordinated by the embassy with support of QCCI and Indian Business and Professionals Network.

The delegation is scheduled meet representatives of local companies.

The delegates will be available for a 'buyer seller meet' today, while QCCI will be organising a business event at its premises tomorrow.

This is the second consecutive year that Capexil is visiting Qatar with a view to realise the vast potential of expanding business with mutual benefit to both sides.
