Hamad Medical Corporation is studying the creation of a new directorate for health insurance so as to coincide with the start of implementation of its first stage, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The objective is to ensure that all the utilities of the corporation are shifted to the system of health insurance without any disruption in the health services and to co-ordinate with the Directorate of Health Insurance at the Supreme Council of Health and the National Company for Health Insurance.

This co-ordination is presently made through a joint committee to prepare for the new system and to form the administrative and technical staff that will implement the procedures relating to the health insurance.

Meetings are currently held between the Directorates of HMC and the Women Hospital to finalise the technical procedures for starting implementation of the first stage of the health insurance and which concern Qatari women. This stage will commence from the effective date of the Law.

In this context, a source from the Supreme Council of Health has confirmed that intensive meetings will be held with the officials of the private hospitals and clinics to know the degree of their readiness to start implementation of the first stage and clarify all the procedures relating to co-ordination with the Directorate of Health Insurance and the National Company for Health Insurance in respect of the developments in the new health system.

The Council informed that it will ensure commitment by all the medical establishments to execute the main objectives of implementing the health insurance system which is a non-profit system subsidised by the State.

The mandatory health insurance include the preventive services,  medication,   rehabilitation and medical examinations against payment of the insurance premiums.

The government will be responsible of payment of health insurance premiums for nationals and the employers shall be responsible of payment of health insurance premiums for non-Qatari employees and their families.
