Three major petrochemical projects are planned to be officially inaugurated in Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone today.
President Mahmud Ahmadinejad will officiate the inauguration ceremony which is going to be held on the eve of the anniversary of Khorramshahr's liberation in 1982, IRNA reported.
During the president's daylong visit to Mahshahr, south of Khuzestan province, a PVC production line in Arvand Petrochemical Company, a project for production of oxygen and nitrogen in Maroun Petrochemical Company and the second liquids dock of Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone will be officially launched.
Until now, Imam Khomeini, Abadan and Qadir petrochemical companies (all located in Khuzestan province) have been the only PVC producers in the country with an annual production capacity of 405,000 tons. As it is not enough to fulfill demands in the domestic market, some grades of PVC are imported for downstream industries producers.
With the launch of Arvand Petrochemical Company (APC), 340,000 tons of suspension and emulsion grade PVC will be added to the country's production capacity.
It is predicted that Iran can start exporting the product and seize 25 to 30 percent of the world market share.
CEO of the National Petrochemical Industries Company Abdol Hussein Bayat said earlier that the launch of APC's caustic soda production line has also helped to meet the market demand for caustic soda which is used in petrochemical plants and downstream industries.
Arvand Petrochemical Company is the largest PVC producer in the world with an annual capacity of manufacturing 2.834 million tons of petrochemical products.
Its products are used in other petrochemical industries, downstream production industries, paper, weaving, detergent and health industries, and resin industries.
Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone in Khuzestan province is a major hub of petrochemical production in the Middle East, manufacturing 17 million tons of petrochemical products annually.
