Nearly 15,000 Nissan and Infinity cars in the UAE are being recalled due to a faulty ignition relay that may cause the vehicles to stall.
In what Nissan Middle East described as a "voluntary" exercise, Nissan Tiida, Armada and Pathfinder models built between August 2003 and July 2006 are being taken back, alongside the Infiniti QX56 model from the same period.
The recalls in the UAE come after a global call back of two million vehicles was announced by the Japanese carmaker over the weekend.
An electrical conduction issue in the affected vehicles may cause the engine stall and mean it cannot be restarted, Nissan said yesterday, adding that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries in the UAE.
"By issuing this voluntary recall Nissan Middle East is ensuring that the drivers and passengers of its vehicles continue to be safe," Nissan Middle East said, urging concerned vehicles owners to contact its call centre in Dubai or visit their local dealer to have the problem rectified.
The recall affects almost 36,000 cars in the Gulf, with 4,576 of those sold in Abu Dhabi and 9,844 in Dubai.
The UAE is the worst hit Gulf nation. This is the third recall this year from Nissan Middle East, after more than a thousand Patrols were called back in July for electronic issues and a global recall hit roughly 26,000 Nissan car owners across the region in March.
Meanwhile, Japanese automakers Suzuki and Mitsubishi also issued separate recalls at the weekend to repair problems involving crossover vehicles.
Suzuki told the Japanese authorities it is recalling nearly 70,000 SX4 compact crossovers to replace screws on the outside rearview mirrors that could become loose. And Mitsubishi is recalling more than 19,000 Endeavor crossover vehicles from its 2006 to 2008 ranges to deal with air conditioning problems.
