More than 12 billion kilowatt hour of electricity will be exported during the current Iranian year (started March 21), said the deputy oil minister for energy and electricity.

Mohammad Behzad also put the share of private sector in electricity generation of the country at 40 percent, Mehr News Agency reported.

He also said Iran's electricity generation capacity increased by 3,729 megawatts (MW) last year.

Behzad noted that the country's power generation capacity has increased from 7,000 MW to 69,000 MW, noting that Iran's power production capacity rose by 31,000 MW since the beginning of the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2005-10).

The official said an increase in electricity capacity during the fourth and fifth plans caused Iran's global standing in the field to rank 14th.

"More than 11 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were exported from Iran to neighboring countries last year," he said.

Behzad also said the establishment of Energy Bourse is one of the most important industrial achievements of the country's power industry in the Fifth Development Plan (2010-15).
