No Escape For Violators: Official
KUWAIT CITY, May 14
The General Traffic Department (GTD) continued its campaign against those who violate traffic regulations throughout the country, resulting in the arrest of more than 100 taxi drivers and confiscation of 25 vehicles.
The arrested taxi drivers were found to have committed a number of violations, such as non-completion of the required training and failure to present a license for driving heavy vehicles.
Meanwhile, the officers issued citations to the owners of the impounded vehicles for violating regulations on the functional age of cars and failure to present valid documents.
It has been reported that Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali presided over the recently-concluded meeting of the directors of traffic departments in all governorates and heads of other concerned units to discuss the campaign. This move is aimed at tracking down those who violate traffic regulations; particularly the drivers of taxis, training vehicles and trucks.
Al-Ali has also instructed the directors to deploy a large number of officers throughout the country, especially within the period specified for certain vehicles not to ply some routes, to ensure strict compliance with the law. He asked the officers not to hesitate in confiscating the licenses of violators, particularly the public transport drivers who suddenly stop on the road to pick up or drop passengers. He also issued a directive to the Road Surveillance Department director to closely monitor the roads and regularly check the surveillance camera recordings to assist the traffic officers in tracking down violators.
